These new graduates will be hungry for experience as they transition to the next phase of their lives and will be willing to work hard.

Reach Out to Coding Bootcamps.

A lot of people are making an effort to learn how to code because they know how important it is. What most people don’t know, however, is how needed basic IT skills are in a company. You can always reach out to coding boot camps to see if any of their graduates are looking for a job that has components both of web development and IT tech support.

Implement a Test in the Hiring Process.

Your technology is only as good as your IT team, and that’s why you need to make sure that your new recruits can respond to challenges on the fly. As part of the hiring process, you should implement a series of challenges that could potentially come up in the role of an IT manager. Then, you should see how long it takes your recruits to fix the problem and make decisions based on that.

Thanksgiving – that wonderful holiday filled with Family. Friends. Food. Football. The kickoff for gaining that weight you resolve to lose come New Year’s Day.

The truth is, as much as we love the holiday, the giving of thanks is an attitude that serves us well all year long.

In fact, while we don’t fully understand the link between an attitude of gratitude and our health, research indicates that it does make a difference. Giving of thanks on a daily basis results in:

  • Better sleep
  • Reduced cardiac risk
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Improved kidney function
  • Reduced stress-hormone levels

Of course, improved health isn’t the only reward for a grateful heart.

Slow Cooker Reuben Dip

16 oz. jar of sauerkraut, drained

8 oz. package of cream cheese, softened

2 cups shredded Swiss cheese

2 cups shredded cook corned beef – or chipped beef

¼ cup thousand island salad dressing

Mix ingredients together in crockpot and heat on low (or high if in a hurry) until cheese is melted. Serve – and discover you are the hero of the hour.


Effective Employee Communication Tools

Employee-employer communication is crucial if you want to have an effective business. There are a lot of different ways in which you can stay connected to your employees; we’ve highlighted some of our favorite tools below:

Use a Project Management Tool.

Digital project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Basecamp are a great way to communicate effectively with your employees. These tools allow you to let your employees know when key deliverables are due, so there’s no confusion. Your employees can also assign tasks to each other, so there’s double coverage on all the tasks at hand.

Use a Chat Tool.

People don’t always read e-mails because they can be cumbersome and take too long to read. This is why using a Chat tool like Skype, HipChat, or Slack is a great idea. You can communicate quickly with any of your employees to give them the pertinent information you would have otherwise forgotten.

Do In-Person Meetings Once a Week.

Even though technology is great for communicating quickly and effectively, you still want to make sure you’re meeting with your employees at least once a week so you can give them a chance to ask you questions. You will find that when one person asks you a question in-person, your other employees will learn from them as well.

Freelancing vs. Temp Gigs

If you’ve ever been a freelancer or worked a temp job, you know how different the two are from each other or full-time work. However, for those who don’t like working a full-time 9-to-5 job, freelancing or temping may be the only option. Here are some of the biggest differences and considerations you need to be made aware of when you’re deciding between the two options:

Freedom vs. Stability.

Freelancing gives you more freedom, whereas a temp gig will give you more stability. When you freelance, you can choose what assignments you take, how many assignments you take, and when you take them. When you sign up for a temp gig, you don’t necessarily get to choose when and how you work, but you do have a stable income you can count on for the future.

Long-Term Future vs. Short-Term Gains.

Speaking of the future, freelancing and temping are different in reference to your future. Freelancing seems to have more of a long-term future (as you build up a steady client base) while temping has more short-term gains regarding building up experience and learning about different jobs.

Solo vs. Team.

If you like working independently, freelancing is definitely for you. If you like working with a team, a temp job might be the perfect fit for you. This is something you might have to figure out for yourself after trying out the other one to help you decide which one is most conducive your working style and production.

Have a Niche

The more specific your skill sets or interests are, the harder it will be for people to forget you. Your niche can be anything, really; maybe you have a knack for optimizing social media for auto body shops or maybe you are known for being able to troubleshoot DSLRs. Whatever your niche is, own it – that’s what people will remember you for when they’re hiring.

Keep Your Social Media Profiles Consistent

Social media is everything, so you need to ensure your profiles are painting a consistent image. If your brand is a responsible entrepreneur who wakes up early every morning to do yoga, your social media profiles better not have photos of you staying up late partying with your friends. If you can keep everything consistent, you will have a much better shot at branding yourself.

Take Jobs in the Same Field.

Another great way to brand yourself professionally is to take jobs in the same field. For example, if you’re known for being a brilliant marketer, it might be kind of confusing to people if you suddenly started working as an event planner.
