Anticipate Their Hesitations.

If you don’t want your candidate to say no, it’s your job to anticipate their hesitations and address them before they become an issue. Pay attention to what your candidate is saying or doing in their first few interviews, and you’ll be surprised about what you can pick up. For example, if they are concerned about the long commute to the office, you can mention the flexible work-from-home policy if you have one.

Paint a Picture of Their Future.

If you don’t already have a five-year plan, that’s something you should put at the top of your to-do list. Having a five-year plan is imperative because it can keep you on track both professionally and personally. Need some help? If you’ve never made a five-year plan before, here’s how you can go about formulating one:

Consult with Involved Parties.

Before you start working on your five-year plan, you need to consult with any other involved parties to see if what you’re about to commit to will have any effect on them. This could include (but not limited to): spouses, children, parents, siblings, or friends.

Quantify Individual Goals regarding Effort.

While coming up with a five-year plan may seem overwhelming, the easiest way to combat this is to quantify individual goals regarding effort. If a certain goal is going to take longer than another, you may want to start working on that sooner rather than later so you make sure you can accomplish it. You should also determine what goals would build upon each other and make sure you lay the foundations first before you get going on a goal that needs them.

Allow for Slight Deviations.

Try to refrain from having your five-year plan be so strict that it doesn’t allow for any deviations. This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t try to follow it when you can, but don’t make it so tight that any unforeseen circumstance such as illness, accident, job loss, childbirth, or any exciting opportunity gets in the way of it.

Have a Start Goal and an End Goal.

Putting together a five-year plan is less overwhelming when you have both a start goal and an end goal. This will allow you to “fill in” your five-year plan taking into account both where you are starting and where you want to go. When you have both of these in mind, you are much more likely to make achievable and tangible goals as opposed to lofty ones you wouldn’t be able to accomplish.

Perhaps another offer has perks and benefits, which you didn’t originally anticipate. Even though you may think you know everything about what you want, take some time to consider these offerings. For example, if a company allows you to work from home one day a week, that’s something you would want to take into consideration depending on your commute time and/or what your family responsibilities are. Don’t be so quick to say yes to your “ideal” company that you don’t take the full picture into account.

They Want You to Work for Them.

Don’t underestimate the power of being really wanted by a company. First of all, this shows that they need you, which could be good from a responsibility standpoint. You will likely be given a large amount of responsibility, which can lead to an immense amount of personal fulfillment and sense of accomplished if you can move into a role that is a good fit for you. You Have Bargaining Power.

When you are extended a more than one, that means you have bargaining power. Freelancers vs. Employees – Which One is Right for Your Business?

When you’re in need of additional help with your business, it’s common to wonder whether you should hire freelancers or employees. Depending on your exact needs, that answer can vary drastically, so here are our tips to help you make the right choice.

The length of Work.

Typically, an employee is someone who is with a company for a prolonged amount of time, and a freelancer is with a company for a short amount of time. This aspect can vary, though, depending on the other factors. There have been circumstances where freelancers have held long-term relationships with companies but only have worked remotely or on a part-time basis.

Remote or Office.

Most of the time, freelancers have the option to work remotely whereas employees usually don’t. Because a lot of freelancers work part-time, there doesn’t need to be designated desk space for them to complete their job duties. This will also depend on whether the job needs to be completed with other people or can be done alone.

Full-Time or Part-Time.

If you need part-time help, you could either be in need of an employee or a freelancer. However, full-time help is almost always an employee as opposed to a freelancer, unless the duration is extremely short (a few weeks).

Job Duties.

There are some jobs that won’t be freelance because you simply will need someone at the office every day to get things done. You will be able to network with a lot of people, learn about multiple companies, and maybe even walk away with a scheduled interview or two. There will be lots of job seekers attending, however, so consider these tips for Olympic Staffing – they will help you stand out in the crowd.

Ask Questions.

You would be surprised at how many people don’t ask questions at job fairs. They get overwhelmed by the many companies they need to talk to and forget that they’re being assessed on the spot. Asking questions will help you separate the companies in your mind. It will make it easier to know which ones are a good fit for you.

Treat Each Interaction Like a Mini-Interview.

If you do this, you’ll be ahead of everyone else at the job fair. Dress in business casual attire and have resumes ready to hand out to anyone who asks. By doing this, you’re also letting the job fair staff know that you’re very serious about working for them.

Follow Up.

You can put your name on an e-mail list, but the best and easiest way to stand out to the people you talked to at the job fair is to follow up with them a day or two after the job fair.
