The Effective Job Change

August 16th, 2016

Sometimes, you’re just altogether unhappy with your job, but your choices are limited, and you have to wait it out until a better opportunity comes along. On the other hand, sometimes the best thing to do is to take action – as quickly as possible to ensure you can leave that job. If you’re serious about changing to another job, here are our tips on how to switch jobs and find a great fit.

Start Looking for Other Opportunities Now

The second you identify you want to change jobs, you need to start looking for new opportunities as soon as possible. The reason for this is that by the time you interview, follow-up, interview again, and get all the paperwork signed, you could easily be looking at a month timeline. Plus, you will want to prepare yourself mentally to leave your current situation.

Schedule Interviews and Follow-Up

As soon as you identify a job that might interest you, start scheduling interviews and make it easy on yourself to follow-up. This could mean that you draft a boilerplate e-mail that you would send as a follow-up or set reminders in your calendar to follow up before you even have the interview.

Allow for Two Weeks’ Notice

When the right opportunity develops, don’t delay giving your two weeks notice. This will give you enough time to get all your ducks in a row at work and still be able to transition successfully into another job. Besides, your present employer/coworkers deserve that respect.

Partner with a Staffing Firm

Staffing Agencies devote their time to understanding both clients and candidates. They consider present needs, future goals, culture, personality, skills/experience, and company requirements. It’s actually the first step in a job change – rather than the last.
